Dynamical Dark Energy

Dynamical dark energy is an old subject which is still highly topical. Originally the models of Wetterich and Ratra-Peebles predate the discovery of dark energy by about ten years. These days dark energy involve whatever remains of the allowed field theory space of the degenerate Horndeski type, involving a combination of K-essence, a time-dependent Newton constant and higher order terms in the scalar field derivatives. Not all the physics of these models has been worked out yet.
